Flowers will last at least a week when taken care of well, and often much longer. To enjoy them as long as possible, please read on:
- Nothing is more important than fresh water - change the water daily and rinse out the
vase! But - do not use deionized or softened water, it will kill the flowers!
- Cut the stems of your flowers with a sharp knife about 1/4 to 1/2 inch every few days.
Many arranged bouquets can be removed from a vase intact and put right back in - no need to rearrange everything. Important: If the water level dropped below any of the stems in the vase, you must cut the stems at least 1/2 inch. Otherwise, the flower will die as the stems clog with bacteria and air bubbles.
- Use your flower food with fresh water. You can even make your own with 2 teaspoons of lemon juice or vinegar, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon bleach per quart of water.
- Flowers like it cool. So, don't place them in warm or sunny areas of the house, and if it's cool outside (not freezing, though), put the bouquet outside for the night! But be careful with flowers inside your refrigerator - flowers do not like to be around fruit, and the air inside a fridge is often much too dry.
